Revitalised US electric car manufacturer Detroit Electric gears up for SP:01 sports car launch.
Detroit Electric has unveiled a modernised logo and released a hint of its new car’s design.
So what, you might say, but Detroit Electric’s success is important for the UK too.
The Lotus Elise-based SP:01 electric roadster will be built at a new production facility in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
It’s believed the SP:01 will be capable of 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 155mph and it’s expected to go on sale in 2015.
Just this month, Detroit Electric took an order for 300 SP:01 cars from a South Korean energy company based on Jeju Island – a province aiming to become a ‘zero car emissions’ zone by 2020.
Detroit Electric is one of the oldest players in the electric vehicle sector, beginning life in 1906.
The brand was revived in 2008 by Albert Lam, former Group CEO of the Lotus Engineering Group and Executive Director of Lotus Cars.
