Are you in the market for a new car or looking to refresh your existing one with a new color? Whatever the case, choosing a new hue isn’t as simple as it once was, but it is more fun. New and unique car colors are flooding the auto industry, meaning you’re spoiled for choice.
Earth Tones
Although earth tones have always been popular in utility vehicles, many sports car owners have joined the trend toward greys, browns, tans and similar tones for their new machines. Owners who switch to non-metallic, low-key colors may want to fit in more with other traffic, as their vehicle models already stand out enough.
The toned-down grey called Chalk available on the Porsche Panamera or the subtle Gobi tan on the Jeep Wrangler often add premium price tags to two-seaters and off-roaders, with car companies usually only offering them as extras. If you’re looking for adventurous and stealthy options or a chance to feel at one with your natural surroundings while driving, an earth-tone paint job might be the perfect choice.
Chromatics and Metallics
Black has an unending allure and remains a highly popular car color. Unfortunately, criminals often target vehicles in this color because the shade is common and blends in.
Painting each base coat also takes longer than shades without black pigment — 45 minutes at a minimum — which could make them less cost-efficient in manufacturing. Whether for these reasons or not, black cars are not as dominant as they once were, with deep and bright chromatic and metallic colors eating into their market share.
For example, Acura released its TLX Type S in a deep gold Tiger Eye Pearl color. The 2024 Lamborghini Revaelto is also available in the deep chromatic Blu Glauco — a beautiful blue-green offering a certain brash quality. Another elite model — the Rolls-Royce Spectre — comes in Twilight Purple metallic paint and is a royalty-colored eye opener.
Pastels
While some elite car owners refrain from using colors to highlight their machines, many younger people’s choices shift toward individuality and personality expression. In other words, they like their vehicles to be more representative of who they are, which new color choices enable. Unique soft pastel vehicle colors — including lavender, mint green and soft peach — are now more prominent on the roads.
Aston Martin’s most recent catalog offers Lime Essence as an option, not for sports models alone. Bentley has Jetstream II — an almost baby-blue pastel color. Chevrolet adorns its eighth-generation E-Ray Corvette in Cacti Green — an eye-catching yet subtle color that hovers between a pastel and an earth tone.
Wider Car Color Choices Mean More Options
Whether looking to blend into traffic, display your personality or switch from black to chromatic originality, one or more of the auto industry’s unique car colors will appeal to your taste. With many rising to prominence, you won’t have to look too hard for the shade that suits you and your favorite vehicles.
