New research suggests that there’s as postcode lottery when it comes to buying a new car with a difference of as much as £7,000 between cities in the UK.
Car accessory firm Ixplor decided to find out how prices changed throughout the country for two popular models – the Volkswagen Golf S (1.6) and Nissan Qashqai 1.3 DiG-T.
Pulling figures from AutoTrader, Cargurus and Carwow to see what deals they could get, the researchers found that Kingston upon Hull was the cheapest city to buy the Golf at £15,666, while Brighton was the most expensive at £22,697.
Belfast was the cheapest city to buy the Qashqai £17,128 and Oxford was the most expensive at £24,750.
But while Brighton residents could save the most by driving further to get their car, Edinburgh residents had the simplest savings.
People in Edinburgh, who jump on the M9 to Stirling, can save an astonishing £4,000 on the price of a Golf and £2,855 on a Qashqai in less than an hour.
“It’s eye-opening to uncover such a significant difference in the price of a car across the UK,” said Ixplor’s Mareike Mueller.
“The disparity in cost turns what should be an exciting new experience for families into a penny-pinching exercise.”
