TVR sports cars roar back

Get set for the return of TVR, with a little help from legendary F1 designer Gordon Murray and Cosworth.

TVR, the British sports car maker famous for models such as the Griffith, Tuscan and Chimaera, has not produced any cars since 2006.

However, a syndicate of British businessmen led by Les Edgar, bought the company in 2013 and now “at least four new models” are planned for the next 10 years.

Crucial to this ambition is the collaboration with Gordon Murray Design and Cosworth, each providing much of the core design and engineering capability for the all-new TVR.

“TVR is an iconic brand which has been an important part of British sports car manufacturing for many decades” explained Gordon Murray.

“Its return to manufacturing is an exciting development and the car deserves the best chassis and powertrain that can possibly be delivered. To that end, I am delighted that our company is involved with the project, and that TVR are using our iStream technology.”

The reborn TVR, which is expected to go into production in 2017, will be a traditional TVR in the sense that it’s a front engined, rear wheel drive two-seater, however, this time round it will be powered by a Cosworth V8 engine.

It’s believed that the mechanical design of the cars will take place at the premises of Gordon Murray Design (GMD) in Surrey and the cars will be built somewhere in Britain.
