A remarkable video has been released by Chinese-backed NextEV featuring its futuristic car lap the notorious 12.9-mile “Green Hell” in six minutes, 45.900 seconds – 19.22 seconds faster than its previous lap time.

Shaving 2.1 seconds off the previous best time by a road-legal vehicle (set by the Radical SR8LM in 2009), the NIO EP9 is a full half-minute quicker than the nearest EV challenger – Toyota’s TMG EV P002.

It’s also six seconds faster than the Lamborghini Huracan Performante, which set a time of six minutes 52.01s earlier this year.

The EP9’s 1-MegaWatt of power is equivalent to 1360PS (1342 bhp) and it has a top speed of 313kph (194mph) – accelerating from 0-200kph (0-124mph) in 7.1 seconds.
