Revealed: Top 10 driving songs

Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody is the king of the road, according to a new survey.

The legendary 1976 chart-topper, which also featured so memorably in the Wayne’s World movie, beat Guns n’ Roses classic Sweet Child O’Mine and Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven in the poll to find Britain’s favourite driving songs.

The study, which was compiled by Goodyear ahead of the 2016 Brit Awards, also revealed that rock is British drivers’ genre of choice (36%), followed by pop (26%) and R&B (7%).

The research also revealed the differing tastes of car owners. While Vauxhall, BMW, MINI, Ford, Nissan and Renault owners all reflected the masses in voting Queen as their favourite tune, Peugeot, Volkswagen and Audi owners chose Guns n’
Roses as their most played.

Land Rover and Skoda drivers are most likely to listen to Johnny Cash’s Ring of Fire, while SEAT owners have a passion for R&B, rap and hip hop, naming Bob Marley’s No Woman, No Cry as their favourite song.

Young drivers (aged 17-24) have a combined love of pop, dance and rock in equal measures (15%), with more than one in five (23%) named Tiesto’s Adagio for Strings as their favourite driving tune.

Drivers aged 25-34 prefer listening to R&B (28%) most, whilst one in 10 drivers over 55 listen to country music.

“Music has the ability to make us feel good even if you’re stuck in gridlock traffic,” said Kate Rock of Goodyear Tyres UK.

“The mix of genres in the Top 10 reveals the differing tastes of the British public, but Queen still reigns the roads when it comes to great driving tunes.”
