Viva la Viva

First official pictures of all-new Vauxhall Viva city car released ahead of Spring 2015 launch.

Meet Vauxhall’s new entry-level five-door Viva which will join its Adam and Corsa siblings next year.

With a name that pays homage to Vauxhall’s original Viva, which was made from 1963 to 1979, it’s just 3.68 metres long, yet it’s claimed will provide “more than enough room for up to five people”.

The Viva will be the latest Vauxhall to feature its new 1.0-litre three-cylinder ECOTEC engine we liked so much in our recent review of the new Corsa.

Like its stablemates ADAM and Corsa, the Viva will be fully-connected thanks to the IntelliLink infotainment system, which allows seamless integration of Apple iOS and Android devices.

“Short, crisp and full of character, Vauxhall’s new entry-level model is a ‘proper’ small car and will hold great appeal in this rapidly growing sector,” said Tim Tozer, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director.

“On sale next year at an extremely attractive price point, VIVA joins new Corsa and ADAM in a compelling small car portfolio, giving Vauxhall an unrivalled position in the small car market.”

  1. This is clearly Vauxhall’s attempt at a city car for ’empty nesters’, i.e. people who might be old enough to remember the original but who, now free from their offspring, might need something a bit smaller.
Downsizing might work in the housing market, but I reckon people get too used to extra space in their cars, and this will be a far more difficult sell.
