Viva brand revived by Vauxhall for its all-new entry-level city car.
Vauxhall’s new small car, replacing the Agila, is to be called the Viva when it goes on sale next summer.
It probably won’t mean much to those under 40, but the name pays homage to Vauxhall’s original Viva which was available between 1963-79.
More than 1.5 million of the slightly bland four-door saloons and estates were manufactured at Vauxhall’s plant in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
Vauxhall says the new Viva will have an “extremely attractive price point”.
It will have a five-door body style with either four or five seats.
“This bold, radical name will attract attention and engender curiosity in the car,” said Peter Hope, Vauxhall’s Marketing Director.
The Opel version of the car, available overseas, will use a different name to Viva.
