Advantage Peugeot 508

What the deuce is Novak Djokovic’s connection with Peugeot’s executive express?

The answer is that the tennis champ is Peugeot’s new brand ambassador so he was on hand to promote the French car giant’s revised 508.

Peugeot is experiencing something of a renaissance at the moment with a strong model line-up, including the acclaimed 308 family htachback.

The company hopes the “new” 508, which was first unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and boasts sales of 360,000, is in keeping with the brand’s move up-market.

On sale in Europe from September 10, the new-look 508 will be built in France and China, which became Peugeot’s biggest market in 2013, representing 30% of sales. The UK is Peugeot’s third largest market.

The new 508 features changes inside, outside and under its skin, but it’s perhaps the new grille that sets it apart. A pointer to the look of Peugeots to come, it’s deeper and features the 125-year-old brand’s lion emblem at its centre.

As well as top spec features including a touch screen, reversing camera and blind spot sensors, the 508 features economical, low emission 1.6 and 2.0-litre BlueHDI engines.

Peugeot’s designers have also given the exterior a more assertive look and there are new lamps front and rear.

There’s also a hybrid version, partnering a 163bhp 2.0-litre HDi Diesel engine combined with a 37bhp electric motor driving the rear wheels operate either alternately or together, giving a combined fuel consumption of 85.6 mpg.
