MINI hatches five doors

BMW launches first ever five-door MINI hatchback.

Looking like a stretched version of the standard MINI hatch, the designers haven’t just squeezed in two extra rear doors.

The new variant boasts a longer wheelbase, more headroom and a bigger boot.

The new MINI Cooper 5-door Hatch and Cooper D 5-door Hatch is 161 millimetres longer and 11 millimetres taller than the 3-door MINI Hatch. The width remains unchanged. The wheelbase has been extended by 72 millimetres to 2,567 millimetres, while the track is identical to that of the 3-door model.

The Cooper D offers combined fuel economy of 78.5 mpg while CO2 emissions start from 95 g/km. The Cooper S Hatch can hit 62mph in just 6.8 secs.

A fresh model, the MINI Cooper SD 5-door Hatch, will be available with a new 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel power unit that has an output of 170 hp, capable of 0-62 time of 7.4 seconds and 68.9 mpg.

The new MINI 5–door Hatch range, built in Oxford and due to hit UK roads this autumn, starts at £15,900 – slightly more than its three-door sibling.
