Mahindra e2o electric car launches

Indian manufacturer Mahindra has launched its e2o electric car in the UK, priced from £12.995.

The successor to the G-Wiz is more expensive than the Renault Twizy, which starts at £6,895, but undercuts the cheapeast mainstream car which is the £18,445 Renault Zoe.

“Designed specifically for easy urban commuting”, the Mahindra e2o will be available in two trim levels. The entry-level e2o City and the higher-spec TechX which retails at £15,995 and includes a touchscreen infotainment centre with reversing camera, telematics, leather seats, alloy wheels and a rapid charging port.

The three-door hatchback has four seats and a claimed range of 79 miles. It has a top speed of 63mph and takes nine hours to charge from empty, though the e2o TechX also has a fast charge option, taking 1.5 hours.

Mahindra claims that e2o owners that drive the UK average of 7,900 miles per year, and who charge at home at night on an Economy 7 tariff, will pay under £10 per month on fuel. It’s also exempt from road tax and the London Congestion Charge.

The car, which has two airbags, anti-lock brakes and electronic stability control as standard, as well as ISOFIX child car seat mounting points in the rear seats, is available to purchase online now, with deliveries starting in May.
