Vauxhall Motors is auctioning off a piece of motoring history – the Vauxhall Astra used by BBC Top Gear as their ‘Reasonably Priced Car’.
The five-door Power Red 1.6-litre Astra Tech Line has been added to eBay raise funds to raise awareness and funds for the automotive industry charity, BEN.
Celebrities who thrashed the car around the Top Gear track at Dunsfold Aerodrome, Surrey, included Jimmy Carr, Warwick Davis, Brian Johnson and Joss Stone, while Olly Murs topped the leaderboard after his run.
However, if you’re thinking of driving away in thge Top Gear Astra, there is one catch.
Bidders should be aware that the airbags have all been disabled to make room for the roll-cage.
The roll-cage and seating would have to removed to re-instate the airbags, so in its current state, the car is not type-approved and should not be driven on the road.
Vauxhall says it will work with the successful bidder at handover to fully explain how the vehicle has been adapted, but converting the vehicle back into use on the public highway “would incur significant cost”.
Bids can be placed here and all proceeds will be donated to BEN.
The car has covered just 2,908 miles and features Front Corbeau Sprint Racing seats with 5 point safety belt harness and full roll-cage.
David Main, BEN Chief Executive, said: “We are reliant on the generosity of our supporters to enable us to continue our work helping people who work within the UK automotive industry, so we are very grateful to Vauxhall Motors for this kind donation of a piece of history for a great cause.”
