‘Entry level’ McLaren unveiled

McLaren have announced their most affordable car ever – the 570S Coupe.

The first model in McLaren’s Sports Series, it clearly has the Porsche 911 Turbo firmly in its sights.

Expected to cost around £140,000 when it goes on sale later this year, the mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, carbon-fibre car will be capable of 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds, topping out at 204mph.

The design includes flying buttresses to optimise aerodynamics and increase downforce and it’s powered by the M838TE twin turbo V8 engine, producing 570PS (about 562bhp).

McLaren’s first compact sports car also delivers fairly good fuel efficiency and emissions for car in the 200mph club, with fuel economy of 25.5mpg and CO2 emissions of 258g/km.

Power is delivered through a seven-speed SSG transmission and it’s brought under control with carbon ceramic brakes. There’s also a newly designed range of forged alloy wheel options with P Zero Corsa tyres as standard from McLaren’s technical partner, Pirelli – 225/35/R19 on the front and 285/35/R20 on the rear.

Mclaren says the the cabin of the 570S has been designed around the driver “with a clear focus on engagement, visibility, functionality and more than any McLaren before it, day-to-day usability and space”.
