British campervan company Horizon MCV is hoping to grab a slice of the growing glamping market with its latest launch.
Glamping, or glamorous camping, is the new way to enjoy the great outdoors without having to rough it.
Hull-based Horizon MCV wants to revolutionise the campervan scene with its Mercedes-Benz Vito range, providing luxury mobile accommodation for four adults and a child.
It’s the first time a company has adapted the German brand’s vehicles for the UK luxury market.
The Vito range starts at £47,000 (finance options too) and Horizon MCV is marketing the campervans as “multi-concept vehicles”, designed to act both as premium vehicles for everyday transportation such as taking the kids to school and commuting, but also as a living area for weekends away and holidays.
Starting life as a panelled Mercedes-Benz Dualiner, a Horizon MCV Vito undergoes a stage-by-stage hand build.
An elevating roof is added to the exterior which increases its internal height by 2.20m.
Inside, the vehicle is tailored throughout with leather furnishings and granite surfaces, with modern dining and kitchen facilities. Then at the push of a button, the interior becomes a spacious sleeping quarter for four adults and one child as the back seats flatten electronically and the front seats swivel.
Powered by a four-cylinder 2.2-litre CDI diesel engine which produces 136bhp, Horizon MCV says the Vito benefits from “enhanced running smoothness and exceptional comfort which cannot be matched elsewhere in the campervan market” thanks to sophisticated Mercedes-Benz traction and stability controls.
