Range Rover Nürburgring record

Hot Range Rover Sport becomes the fastest production SUV ever around the famed German circuit.

The fastest and most powerful production Land Rover ever, the Range Rover Sport SVR, has lapped the legendary 12.9-mile Nordschleife in a record 8 minutes, 14 seconds – a record for an SUV.

The hot lap was completed by a Land Rover driver testing a standard production example of the new performance flagship.

The Range Rover Sport SVR, which will arrive in Land Rover showrooms in 2015, is powered by an uprated version of Land Rover’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, which has been tuned to deliver 550PS – a 40PS increase over the existing engine.

The Nürburgring’s challenging layout represents the ultimate test for high performance vehicles.

Just to put this into context, Top Gear regular Sabine Schmitz hustled a Ford Transit round the Nürburgring in 10 minutes, 8 seconds, while Jeremy Clarkson eventually set a time of 9 minutes, 59 seconds in a Jaguar S-Type diesel.
