BAC Mono smashes Sepang lap record

BAC Mono sets the fastest ever lap for a production car at the Sepang circuit, Malaysia

A BAC Mono has set the fastest-ever production car lap time at the Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia.

The “world’s only single-seater, road-legal supercar” conquered the famous Formula 1 track in just 2:14.617.

With Blancpain GT Series Asia driver Shaun Thong at the wheel, the previous best time (2:18.997 posted by the Porsche GT2 RS) was beaten by more four four seconds.

Built in Britain by the Briggs Automotive Company (BAC), the Mono has also set the best production times at other circuits including Zolder, Hungaroring and Anglesey, as well as being the fastest car ever to compete in the Goodwood Festival of Speed Supercar Shootout.

The lap was officially clocked by Sepang International Circuit timekeepers and fully demonstrated the Mono’s ability as an all-rounder on a track which features fast, sweeping corners and long straights.

Weighing in at just 580kg, the BCA Mono is powered by a mounted 2.5 litre four-cylinder Mountune engine developing 305bhp which is capable of 0-60mph in just 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 170mph.
