Ultimate VW Golf

Is the Volkswagen Golf R the hottest hot hatch ever? We think so…

We spent today test-driving Volkswagens in the quintessentially English Cotswolds. If you follow us on Twitter you might have seen a few posts and pictures.

We’ll tell all in the coming weeks, particularly about the VW Golf R – a sensational car with blistering performance AND practicality.

For those that don’t know, the R is the most powerful production Golf yet.

At the heart of the R is a modified version of the four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine used in the latest Golf GTI, capable of 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds (versus 5.7 seconds for previous Golf R), or 4.9 seconds with optional DSG gearbox. The top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph.

We’ll have a review of the Golf R, as well as the Golf SV (the cavernous new Golf Plus) and the latest VW Polo range, in the coming weeks.
