Skoda was the surprise winner of the 2010 Car of the Year award in the Auto Express New Car category. The Skoda Yeti took top honours but the company, who have been much maligned for many years, cleaned up taking five awards in total and securing their credentials as a quality car manufacturer.
Along with the Yeti to pick up a trophy were the Skoda hatch, named “best family car”, the Skoda Superb Estate was considered the “best estate car”, while the Yeti also won the “best crossover” category as well. The brand itself also received the top manufacturers award from the Auto Express Driver Power owners’ satisfaction survey, rounding the evening off with the “Driver Power Award.”
David Jones, Auto Express’s Editor said of the Skoda Yeti, “this year the award goes to a car that blends the looks of an off-roader with the versatility of a compact MPV.” Continuing that the Yeti “mixes tough Tonker toy looks, sharp handling and a high quality and spacious cabin, with the brands famed value for money pricing and customer service.
Skoda UK Director, Robert Hazelwood felt that it was a fantastic honour, and was delighted that Auto Express thought as highly as Skoda did about the Yeti. He said it was proving what a great car it was, selling well and having optimistic forecasts, calling the Yeti a stylish car with great value and a huge helping of fun.
Hazelwood said that the other awards Skoda had received recognised the outstanding effort retailers had put into the name to provide top quality customer service to all Skoda owners.
