Second hand cars at first class prices

If you’re looking to buy a car at the moment you are in luck – there are a huge number of quality used cars for sale at the moment, often for extremely good prices. Buying a used car doesn’t mean that you have to subject yourself to the uncertainties of a private sale, dealers such as Evans Halshaw  have a wide variety of quality used cars in stock, so you can take advantage of all the benefits of a used car while enjoying the service of a reputable dealer.

With the recession prompting people to take more care with their budgets and do more research into their options, many people are choosing to buy a used car over a new model. Used cars can be a boon to your bank account as not only can you get a high-quality car for much less of an upfront cost than buying new, but your insurance costs will also be decreased. The current economic situation and increases in insurance and fuel costs have led to many people downsizing their cars or changing from a two to a one-car family, leading to high-quality second hand cars entering the market.

Of course, there are a few things you should bear in mind when checking out second hand cars.

It is vital to make sure that all the documentation is in order. Check that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the paperwork is the same as on the car’s body. Ask for MOT certificates and the service history. Check any documented repairs against the car itself to see if there is evidence of damage that has not been listed and make sure that there is no evidence of shoddy or haphazard repair.

The Retail Motor Industry Federation advises prospective purchasers of second hand cars to go through a checklist including: making sure all the tires have a tread of 1.6mm or greater, ensuring that all locks, seals and electrics such as windscreen wipers are functioning, looking for good-condition of the paintwork and outside panels and checking the underside of the car. Look at the interior of the car for an indication of how it has been cared for – worn carpets, frayed seatbelts and pedals in poor condition can be a sign that the car has not been treated well.

Of course, after going through this check-list, make sure you don’t forget the test drive.

  1. Unfortunately the used car market is a mind field and you can go through all the check lists in the world but if you aren’t knowledgeable about cars you will over look more than you think. The only way to totally protect yourself is to have the vehicle professionally inspected by someone like MViUK ( http://www.mviuk.co.uk ) For the small cost involved it could be the difference in buying a nightmare or a dream.
