Ford Motability Best Buys

Ford has always been a supporter of the motability scheme since its introduction in 1977; many of their cars make for ideal conversions and many features that aid the disabled driver come as standard.

The Ford range is a very safety conscious brand and all models are equipped with air bags including ones in the headlining, ABS and EPS. Until the end of June 2010 many Ford motability dealers are offering free rear parking sensors fitted too.

One of the favourite Ford motability specialist cars is the Ford Focus Zetec, a spacious five-door car with sturdy 1.6 litres, 100 PS engine. As standard the Zetec comes with electronically heated and operated side mirrors, perimeter alarm systems, CFC free air-con and remote auto controls for the entertainment system.

The Ford Focus Zetec is a great mobility car that can accommodate various adaptations to the steering, gear stick and pedal controls dependant on your circumstances. The boot has a 385-litre capacity, which can be extended, to a maximum of 1247 litres with the rear seats folded down.

On CO2 emissions the Focus Zetec is a mid range car, expelling around 159 g/km making it a band G car. Starting on the road prices for a new Focus Zetec comes in at around £13,144, but motability customers can get this without having to pay any deposit.

These are sturdy, well-built cars, quiet to drive and cheap to maintain and with a well-designed interior they make driving, even in adapted models a pleasure. They are a commuter’s car, good solid run around vehicles, nothing out of the ordinary, but provide an excellent car for urban or country drives.
